hip joint pain, pain when you open legs. when running, it hurts when you put your weight on it.

【male, 40s】

main symptoms

his left hip joint hurt.
it is not that he did a lot of exercise, but the pain suddenly appeared.
when he opens his legs, the pain feels like he is being pulled. When running lightly, pain occurs now the foot lands or leaves the ground.

visual observation and palpation

at first, i suspected the adductor muscles because of the pulling pain when opening the legs, but the symptoms did not reproduce at all when doing hip adduction muscle contraction.
since the pain was intense when he flexed and internally rotated his hip joint while lying on his back, i judged that the cause was the tensor fascia lata muscle and the rectus femoris muscle and treated him.

(1) tensor fascia lata muscle (2) rectus femoris muscle

treatment

trigger point therapy for the anterior surface of the tensor fascia lata muscle, and,,,

trigger point therapy was performed on the rectus femoris muscle.

1st treatment: 10 to 7. overall pain improves by about 30%.
2nd treatment: 7 to 5. able to run a little. no more pain when opening the legs.
3rd treatment: 5 to 1. almost recovered. no more pain with load.

Summary

tensor fascia lata muscle and rectus femoris muscle

the tensor fascia lata muscle is located on the outside of the hip joint.
when a trigger point is formed in this area, the symptom of "pain when load is applied" appears.
the rectus femoris muscle flexes the hip joint and extends the knee.
it is one of the only muscles that attaches across the hip joint. it is called the "biarticular muscle" and is one of the few muscles that straddle two joints.

in some cases, the hip joint can be improved by local treatment, but in other cases, the hip joint can become overloaded and painful due to tightness in the lower back muscles and loss of pelvic rotation.
if you have hip joint pain and it does not improve after treatment of the hip joint alone, it may be a good idea to stop treatment of the hip joint and concentrate on treatment of the lower back.
